Persona Story:
Jaide le Chouette was born into minor nobility in Paris, France in
the spring of 1648. Her mother, Lorraine Gagnier, was very well off
and surprisingly enough, married for love, not money, to a young
noble named Claude le Chouette. Shortly before Jaide’s 4th birthday
her parents were “promoted” in the noble lineage to Duke & Duchess of
Navarre, a province in the disputed Basque region of the Pyrenees
Mountains between France & Spain. The political goal thereof was to
further seat France in the area and claim it for King Louis. Thusly
Jaide and her older sister were moved at an early age to Navarre to a
fine plantation where soon a 3rd sister was born.
Jaide spent her formative years horseback riding (which she loved),
and learning all the traits of nobility (some of which she loved,
some of which she hated), and attending school in Paris and being
tutored at home, all while the wars being fought over the Basque
territory raged on. While in France at Versailles Jaide became a
popular court butterfly and social favorite. She became a trusted
friend to his Majesty King Louis, and it was here in court that she
first met Natalia Petrofskia.
In 1665 a ship sailed into harbor asking for a manqué of nautical
commission from the King. The King had grown up with the Captain, a
Dutch noble’s son, and although the French were at war with the
Dutch, the manqué was granted anyways and Jaide was sent onboard the
ship to keep the King appraised of foreign situations. Natalia was
also allowed to accompany the ship, after she begged the King to let
her get on the pretty boat, as the Russian Political Emissary.
Jaide was quite happy with sea life, except for minor homesickness
and the lack of horseback riding on deck. But all in all, life was
good. In 1670 King Louis sent the crew of Jaide’s ship to Navarre to
back up the French military from Gascony, as the Spanish had hired
Hessians (German mercenaries) to help them take the region. When
Jaide arrived at her childhood home, she found her entire family
killed, her estate burned, and her horses stolen, all by the
Hessians. The Captiane risked everything and everyone to avenge her
parents. Jaide’s loyalty to the crew grew tenfold as they helped her
track down and kill those responsible for her family’s death.
Jaide has since taken to learning new and exotic languages of the
various crew, and is enjoying her 1st trip to the New World. She has
a great deal of respect for the Captiane and has secretly been
compiling a small biography of him, written in Basque, in her
personal journal. She intends to continue with the ship until she
can regain her family’s land and titles in Navarre.
