Battle for Love
(Author: Miguel Esteban Franco de los Rios - 1998)
The quest for Love, if truth be told,
is a journey long and fraught with woe!
The call of battle, my men agree,
to compare, is destiny won with certainty!
Spoken: But chase the heart of crimson
red,
and die you might a million deaths...
Now hear my tale as it unfolds,
A simple telling, of a search, from an ode
that captured my mind when I was but a child
the search for love, inflamed and yet mild.
Spoken: Oh beware the dreams that songs
inspire,
for they influence you in your search for fire...
Well the story begins in a village of green
where she at the market walked unseen
by all except I, or so I thought,
my heart afire as I watched her walk.
Spoken: Tis the folly of youth, to judge
from afar,
the strength of the challenge before thee...
Oh she dimmed the sun with a mane of gold,
and mine eyes would see no other,
and when she turned and caught my gaze,
Her eyes of blue did harbor....
Spoken: a question, a word, a thought
unspoken?
I stood before her defenseless...
And battle we did, from that day forward,
with words and song and deed.
And win I thought, the lady of my dreams,
My heart felt harbored and pleased.
Spoken: But know this truth...
Tis the boon of young me to be satisfied without knowing...
For the dream of love is a worthy foe,
well hidden by expectations...
unmet and unspoken it wields its sword,
leaving weakened, men of all stations.
Spoken: remember this, young men at war,
when the desires of youth drive you to the reel,
Flaxen hair and azure eyes, can wound as sure as steel.
